The 5 BEST Ways to Get Free Traffic

If you’re anything like me you’ve spent your time and money trying to get traffic to your website but you’ve either failed to get the number of hits you thought or the traffic you did get was virtually worthless. I’ve spent countless hours using traffic exchanges, banner exchanges, web rings, posting on message boards…all to very limited results. That’s when I decided it was time to find new methods without having to break my budget. Here are the methods I’ve found to be the most effective:

1. Articles – This is one of the best ways of getting free traffic to your site. Write an article that pertains to the content on your site and submit it to the hundreds of article sites. There are many webmasters and Ezine owners looking for fresh content. As long as you include a link to your site when they use your article on their site not only will you get inbound links to your site on many different pages you will also get free target visitors from people who read your article. Can’t write? No problem, there are hundreds of PLR articles available, however writing your own article is always the best as it also builds your credibility.

2. JV sites – Join one of the many JV sites available and add a link to your site. All you need is something to offer, software, articles, eBooks are all great choices as are free subscriptions. When people access your free gift they also sign up for your mailing list, just be sure to always include a link back to your website.

3. EBooks – Write an eBook with links back to your site and offer resale or give-away rights, every time some sells or gives your eBook away it will have those links back to your site. Once again this gets you very targeted traffic as the reader is interested in the content of your site.

4. Email and Forum signatures – Check with forum rules before using this one. Don’t use banners or flashy graphics, most people just ignore them, instead include a one line text add with a link. Keep it short and sweet, you’ll be surprised at how many of your friends and family will click the link just to see what your doing. In forums, use meaningful posts, if people like what you’ve said they’re likely to visit your site.

5. Word of Mouth – Tell everyone about your site, carry business cards with your website on them and hand them out everywhere. I can’t begin to tell you how many leads I’ve gotten while grocery shopping. Ok, so this isn’t COMPLETELY free but it’s close enough especially considering you can get 250 business cards from Vista Print for less than $5 and you’ll get a lot more traffic than that if you had out your cards everywhere you go. You don’t have to be pushy, just tell them you have a website and ask them to visit it.

These aren’t the only ways of generating free traffic to your website but they are the methods that have been most effective in my experience. Don’t waste time with traffic exchanges (or at least not more than a few minutes a day) instead do something constructive: write an article or eBook, join a JV site, use your signatures, and tell EVERYONE about your site. Tips for Balancing Children and Working from Home

Of the most common questions about working from home is how to balance children and the time spent working. Here are some of the things I have done in the past to help allow me more time with my work:

1. Start the day at least 30 mins before your children get up. In the mornings before your children get up and before you start your workday allow yourself time to prepare for the day. Shower, get dressed and put on your makeup just as if you were going to work outside the home, this helps put you in the mind set for work.

2. Do any chores you have for the day before you start working, this way you are not thinking of all the things you need to do around the house while trying to work. I load the dishwasher at night and start it when I get up in the morning. I also put on the first load of clothes. You can always put the dishes up again and change the laundry over when you break for lunch.

3. Spend time with your children when they wake up; be sure you've tended to their needs first. This will not only cut down on the amount of time they spend interrupting you but it will also ease your mind while you are working.

4. Set aside specific hours that you are working and only work those hours. Be sure the rest of your family understands your schedule and to keep interruptions to a minimum. One of the hardest obstacles to overcome is your family not considering your work to be a job. You may need to hire a sitter for part of the day, maybe just a teen to come to your home for a few hours a day, or a family member.

5. Do not answer the phone or email unless it is work related during your business hours. A lot of time is wasted by friends and family wanting to chat because they don't realize that even though you are home you are working.

6. Take a full lunch hour and schedule breaks. Scheduling a lunch and other breaks will give you time during your workday to spend with your kids and will cut down on interruptions. This also gives you a chance to take care of things that pop up through the day.

I'm Baaaccckk!

Ok so it's been a while since my last post so I'll start off by bringing you guys up to speed. I've moved to back to Washington State. (Where I went to HS) I'm still working from home (after a brief stint at Amazon.com) I have achieved powerseller status on ebay, I'm no longer offering my web design services to others (honestly that just takes more time than I'm willing to invest, plus I have other online income that's a lot more profitable, more on that later.)
